Despite overall negativity towards the Resident Evil film adaptations, Resident Evil: Retribution grossed over $200 million worldwide with a $65 million budget. So we can cry all we want about plot changes, silly characters, silly slo-mo, and shoehorned 3D; there’s money to be made here, and the higher-ups have taken notice.
Director Paul W.S. Anderson spoke of the franchise’s future at the Beijing International Film Festival, including details such as the return of Ada Wong as played by Li Bingbing and “definite 3D”, all while referring to the movie as “Rising Resident Evil”. This could be a mistranslation or a possible subtitle. At this point it’s probably fair to assume that the film will be out in the latter half of 2015.
Who’s excited for more films? They’re fun in a don’t-think-about-it-and-drown-your-disappointment-in-popcorn-and-beer kind of way. You just have to call up some buddies and get ready to laugh.
