Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D will have varying missions

While everyone wishes it were Revelations, the first Resident Evil title to hit the 3DS will be Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D. The game will bring with it the now traditional Mercs mode recently seen in Resident Evil 4 and 5. 30 missions have been confirmed for the upcoming summer 3DS title, and now we know that those missions won’t all be the same “survive for as long as you can” type of ordeal.

This is interesting due to the common belief that every level was just going to be your standard Mercs affair, now with 3D effects and of course the ability to move and shoot. The latter feature is something that many people may have been exaggerating a bit, you can’t exactly move and aim your gun. You can only move and fire your gun without aiming it. Regardless, this feature is a just a little something to keep those who’ve complained about the series’ past gunplay decisions happy.

We also have word on 4 of the characters initial load-outs. Chris starts out with a handgun, shotgun, and a rifle. His sister Claire, making her Mercs debut, starts off with a handgun, sniper rifle, and of course her trusty grenade launcher. She is also noted as having a powerful melee attack that kills foes in 2 hits, but in turn leaves her open to attack mid-way. Krauser will cater to the crowd that prefers a lot more firepower, he comes equipped initially with his trademark box, knife and yes, the rocket launcher. Don’t think just because Krauser has the most powerful weapon he’ll be able to find loads of ammo for it, because he won’t. Ammo for this behemoth of a gun is scarce, which is fair. Then lastly you have Mr. Death himself, Hunk, and he comes loaded with a handgun, electric grenade launcher, and the assault rifle.

While each character has these pre-set load-outs, this doesn’t mean players won’t be able to decide what guns they take out into the field. They’ll be able to do just that as well as upgrade their favorite characters in a skill-tree type fashion, or as Capcom is referring to it as a “talent tree”.

The 3D effect is also said to not have a gimmicky feel to it, instead it provides a lot of depth with your character popping out a bit to give that feeling. What’s interesting about all this information is the varying missions bit. We already wrote up a huge article talking about what levels from the franchise’s history we want to make the cut, but now we can potentially have those levels with their own objectives. The game will be hitting on July 6,2011, a game that’s sure to heat up the summer for 3Ds owners and Resident Evil fans alike.

You can most likely expect an article detailing what type of varying modes we want to see soon. Just saying.
