Ever since the game was revealed, the setting that was always front in center in all forms of Resident Evil Revelations media was the luxury cruise ship. Whether it has classic zombies roaming its interior is another story, though. But we eventually learned the official name for the ship, and received some minor background on it. Queen Zenobia is the name of this ship, and some of its design definitely harkens back to the classic days of roaming through the Spencer mansion, designed by George Trevor. There’s even some areas that make you feel like you’re actually in said mansion. But now we know even more about the history of this particular ship, thanks to a recent update to the game’s official Japanese site.
The ship was created in 1978, with its interior design paying homage to passenger ships of the ’30s. The ship wasn’t exactly birthed at a convenient time, though. Unfortunately (or fortunately for others looking for quicker travel) air travel became all the rage, diminishing the audience for passenger ships altogether. This industry took a big hit, and the Queen Zenobia was close to being scrapped entirely. That is, until it was bought out by the Paraguas Line Company in the late ’80s.
This is when the ship turned into a luxury cruise ship, with state of the art technology implemented into its completely remodeled design. It had its central base in the Mediterranean Sea, with its destinations including many countries. Passengers took pride in riding with this ship, but then things went downhill once more.
Paraguas faced bankruptcy in 2003, endangering the ship and once again putting it in a position to be potentially scrapped again. But then the existence of the ship fell completely off all records. Noone knows anything about the status of the ship after this point in time, and with its recent appearance in the events of Revelations, it’s pretty much a ghost ship by all accounts. A perfect setting for this trip back to the world of survival horror.
