Resident Evil Revelations is going to be a pretty big deal, especially for fans of the series longing for the days of classic survival horror. It’s going to be so big that a standard sized cartridge isn’t going to be able to hold all the suspense, horror, drama, characters, plot, and conspiracies brought forth by this game, so much so that it’ll ship on 4GB cartridges. And you know what else? It’s too big for a standard 3DS price tag of $40.
Yeah, that’s right: Resident Evil Revelations, releasing on February 7, will cost $50; a first for a 3DS title. Capcom confirmed this to Kotaku in an emailed statement where the company’s spokesperson stated:
“A true console experience on a handheld device, Resident Evil Revelations is an epic title that offers both a single-player campaign for that classic survival horror gaming experience, and an additional RAID mode that can be played cooperatively or single player. To handle all of that data Resident Evil Revelationsrequires a 4GB cartridge, resulting in a higher price point.”
So, how do you feel about this? The game is shaping up to be quite huge with a large cast of characters (mostly comprised of new faces) and a story spanning multiple scenarios and settings, ultimately offering “over 20 hours of gameplay.” Capcom is truly aiming to give 3DS owners a full-blown home console experience, but even so, I can already sense the backlash of this announcement coming sooner rather than later. Hey, at least you can erase your saved data, right?
