Resident Evil Revelations is already shaping up to be a huge game. So huge that a transition to a home console down the road wouldn’t require more content being added to the overall package. But such a transition would mean that it would have to lose some of the features that were in the minds of the developers when it was being created from the ground-up for the 3DS. Things like glasses-free 3D support and touch-screen use(it could work on the Wii U, though) are some of the unique features the 3DS allows this game to have. And now there’s one more thing to add: StreetPass.
StreetPass has been put to very good use on the 3DS, allowing people to get new content in their games by simply just walking past someone that also happens to have a 3DS with the game on them. It’s a very neat feature that makes the 3DS quite unique– and even more worth it in my opinion. So, how will Revelations utilize this social feature? Well, in quite a cool way actually, as revealed by the new shots below.
StreetPass will basically allow you to gain new items that enhance your customizeable weapons. This will give you in advantage in the single player game, since you items collected from StreetPass could give you bigger ammo clips, a boost in stopping power, and enhancements to your guns. Yeah, you could say it makes the game easier, but hey, you can opt to disable StreetPass altogether if you so wish. Speaking of weapon enhancements, upgrades and customization are definitely going to play a big part in the game, with weapon benches being scattered throughout the game so you could put your custom gun parts to good use– think Dead Space but with a cute little Veltro insignia on the bench (oh and less futuristic, of course).
But going back to StreetPass. Obtaining new gun parts isn’t the only thing notable about this just-revealed feature for the game. This feature will also allow players to get new enemies to face and missions to take on in the game’s RAID mode. I’m definitely going to be leaning more towards RAID mode for my StreetPass use, especially because this particular mode is more akin to the arcade feel of Mercenaries, and I don’t want to make my single player playthrough easier ( I love me a classic old-school survival horror challenge!). The obtainable missions will also have their own rewards for completing them (so you can think of this as a sort of achievement system, almost).
Are you excited about the game’s StreetPass functionality? Will you be extensively using it? Sound off in the comments and be sure to check out the gallery of new images below, too!
