Rumour has it that the next Resident Evil game will be developed by a company other than Capcom. If you recall, Capcom did make a statement this summer that they would be kicking out more games from their top franchises. Top franchises including Resident Evil, Devil May Cry, Dead Rising…you get the jist of it. To kick out more games would require more production time, and to kick out more production on established franchises while still working on new ones would mean…outsourcing.
A document forwarded to Kotaku indicates that a new, team-based Resident Evil game is currently in development at Slant Six games in Canada. So what kind of a team-based affair would the next Resi be? Well, Slant Six games has several Socom titles under their belt, if that gives you any indication.
The name of the game would be “Resident Evil – Raccoon City.”
A trip over to the Slant Six website reveals….
Everyone here at Slant is very excited as we begin development on an amazing new project. The title is unannounced so far but we are very pleased to be working with our new publishing partner on a world class franchise! Check the site again for more updates and head over to the careers page to see if your skills match any of the posted positions!
Could RE: Raccoon City be the next chapter of the Outbreak series that fans have been waiting for? Unfortunately, Capcom does not respond to rumours, and when it concerns one of their biggest franchises, it’s hard to blame them. There are of course pros and cons to outsourcing to different companies and it’s something that happens all the time. We’ve contacted Slant Six games for information and will keep you posted!
