While Resident Evil: Revelations may be the game at the top of fan’s radars, it looks like Capcom isn’t stopping there.
A while ago it was rumored that Slant Six Games, the team behind SOCOM, would be taking charge of the development of a multi-player focused Resident Evil game for Capcom. This was another example of a Japanese publisher giving their baby to another developer. What excited fans most about this report was the fact that there would be a multi-player focus and that the game would take place in Raccoon City. Now, the rumors have re-surfaced.
The Kartel has just received word that this rumored project will in fact bring the Resident Evil franchise back to the zombified streets of Raccoon City, as the title of the (rumored) game suggests. This, of course, leads to the belief that zombies will be making their much-appreciated return to the franchise’s home-console life. This also leads to the assumption that the game will be a prequel taking on a sort of Outbreak vibe, with brand new characters being introduced to the franchise’s lore. “Multiple playable characters” is what The Kartel is reporting for this, most likely, co-op oriented game.
Fans who have been clamoring for the return of the short-lived Outbreak series may finally have their wishes granted. Hopefully we have this rumor confirmed soon, because such a project seems like a no-brainer at this point, where Capcom is trying to win back the fans they may have alienated by taking a action-heavy approach to the once purely-horror franchise. While The Kartel isn’t known as a scoop machine, we do have a knack for piecing together some insight into upcoming announcements. We 1st broke how Portal 2 would potentially feature co-op gaming between PC and PS3. We also broke how Rock Band hadn’t been profitable for many years, despite the hype surrounding sales. And of course our “yeah right, you’re full of shiit” reveal that Namco was going to work with Capcom to make a Tekken vs Street Fighter game. So I’ll leave it up to you to decide whether you buy into this latest Resident Evil news!
