Some news incoming in this week’s issue of Famitsu regarding Resident Evil Mercenaries 3D.
In a recent interview with Famitsu, a few members of the development team including director Kazuhisa Inoue, sat down and dished about the upcoming 3DS title. It appears that Mercs 3D is further along in development than Revelations. So despite the fact that you generally had to play through the main campaigns to get Mercenaries in previous games, you’ll be getting Mercs before your full-fledged Resi portable ops (Revelations).
There’s a catch to this whole ‘moving and shooting’thing though. It’s in first-person mode. That would be because the view switches to first-person whenever a gun is drawn. While much of that could be seen in the videos that have cropped up on the web already, we were hoping that traditional firing could also be available. However, you can also default to FP view as the default view as well. We can definitely see how that would benefit with the touch screen controls.
Another bonus feature that was revealed was that characters level up and can be fully-customized in-game. For instance, characters have have perks and skills and abilities that can be tweaked along with their equipment ifneed be. You can tell I’ve been playing a lot of Black Ops, because it’s the first thing I could compare this to when I read it. Sounds pretty good in theory, so we’re hoping that it works just as well when the game comes out……..when? Good question. No new information as to when the title will be released.
While Mercs 3D might have some control features some of us have pined for for the last 14 years, others might be disappointed with the ‘lack of story’ that the game delivers. This is a pure action game – and the development team makes no secret of it. Some of the character list has been officially revealed as well, but if you’ll remember, two of our staffers (guilty as charged) took a stab at the character list when the promotional image was first revealed. So far, things have been pretty spot on.
