With the announcement of Umbrella Corps, many fans of the Resident Evil series showed signs of disapproval towards Capcom for a spin-off that totally goes the opposite route of what the series is known for. What the series used to be known for isn’t exactly what it is now fully.
Capcom has taken great steps with the Revelations games, marrying the old-school and modern styles of the series. But the same can’t be said for the main numbered entries, what with Resident Evil 6 being generally conceived poorly by series veterans. So, where does Resident Evil 7 go?
When asked directly about the sequel in the latest issue of Dengeki PlayStation, series producer Masachika Kawata responded by stating: “We’re currently not at a state to talk about it. But please stay tuned.” He also acknowledges how the series has strayed far from its roots, going on to state: “Since there’s been more spinoff titles, I can see how it can be perceived in such a way. And of course I believe that we should produce titles that bring out the horror. I’m thinking about it and also preparing for it.”
Capcom is looking to bring the series back to its roots, and they’re also looking into developing more HD remakes of past games in the series as a way to “respond to as much demand as possible.” So there’s yet hope for an Outbreak HD Remaster!
What do you guys think? Could Resident Evil 7 bring the main series back to its horror roots?
