Aside from the back-and-forth speculation pertaining to the “mysterious man” seen with the “mysterious young blonde woman” in Resident Evil 6’s reveal trailer, another hot debate amongst fans has been that of the game’s actual time period. Capcom originally stated, via the press release, that the game takes place a decade after the Raccoon City Incident. But, if that were to be the case, it wouldn’t exactly be a follow-up to Resident Evil 5, now, would it? Fortunately, we can now lay that to rest.
Capcom has officially revealed that Resident Evil 6 takes place in the year 2013. Meaning that, yes, Resident Evil won’t be breaking its tradition of having main numbered entries follow each other, one after the other. Having said that, a few more details were revealed as well.
In the trailer, Chris is seen traversing a battlefield which used to be a normal Chinese city. Said city is known as Lanshiang, and Chris will be spending a considerable amount of time there along with his fellow BSAA soldiers. On top of that, it’s revealed that prior to the events of Resident Evil 6, Chris has suffered “some kind of personal trauma.” What could that mean? Has someone close to him fallen victim to the evils of bioterrorism? Claire? Jill?!
Then we have small tidbits pertaining to Leon’s partner in his scenario, Helena Harper. Helena is a government agent who was about to indulge in the joys of becoming part of the Secret Service. Well, that needs to be delayed, since the White House seems to have suffered a viral outbreak. This has formulated a theory in my mind. Remember how Leon was set and ready to join the forces of the RPD in Resident Evil 2, finding himself in a city-wide viral outbreak on his first day? Yeah, well, it seems we’re seeing something similar here, only now it’s Leon’s partner that seems to be caught in a similar predicament– I say similar because it most likely isn’t her first day as a government agent.
Lastly we have some more insight on one of the game’s brand new enemies: J’Avo (pictured above). This new BOW was given its name after the Serbian word for “demon” by the BSAA. Presenting more danger than the beloved zombies, these new BOWs actually have the ability to comprehend speech and are able to plan out attacks. And guess what? They can regenerate, too. After taking damage, the creature starts to mutate even further. We saw a bit of this in the trailer where after being shot at, J’Avo’s arm grows immensely. This will definitely bring forth more intensity when it comes to battling these creatures.
That’s all the new information for now, but stay tuned for more coverage and speculation from us as we continue to count down to the game’s November 20th release.
