Resident Evil 6’s debut trailer took the gaming community by storm, and has become a topic of major discussion (and debate) since it went live. Questions are still circulating, waiting to be answered. And while Capcom isn’t exactly ready yet to answer some of these queries, they are willing to provide more insight into the development of the highly-anticipated title. And they did just that in a recent interview with IGN thanks to producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi.
One of the first hings Hirabayashi talks about is the development team’s aim to deliver an “ultimate horror entertainment” experience with Resident Evil 6. He also confirms that yes, the series’ survival horror roots have been a very strong focal point throughout the game’s development. But yet, we still see some action-packed segments– starring Chris– in the trailer. So, what’s up with that?
While Hirabayashi isn’t ready to reveal exactly how Chris and Leon’s scenarios will play out (and how they’ll differ from each other from a gameplay standpoint) he did reveal that with Resident Evil 6, they’re aiming to cater to fans of every style the franchise has seen. We clearly see what’s in store for gamers who loved Resident Evil 5 in the trailer, but we also see some more true-to-form horror moments with Leon. Again, nothing official can be revealed at this time, but it was stated how fear varies on a person-by-person basis; not everyone’s afraid of the same thing(s). Having said that, the team is looking to offer different forms of horror experiences with Resident Evil 6, leading to what they call “ultimate horror entertainment.”
So how about them zombies, huh? Resident Evil 6 answers the prayers of many fans and brings back the beloved walking dead. But they seem to behave a bit differently in the trailer, what with some of them jumping at Leon akin to a Hunter. To this the producer states that the trailer does in fact contain hints as to how these zombies are different from the ones that have come before, and that Capcom will reveal more details pertaining to this soon.
Then we have brief discussion of co-op in the series and how it’ll play a role in Resident Evil 6. Hirabayashi admits that he loved the co-op system in Resident Evil 5 and how they’re always finding new ways to innovate with each new main entry in the franchise. Resident Evil 6 will be no different, but the producer wasn’t ready to reveal any official plans for cooperative modes just yet.
And about those unknown characters we’ve seen in the trailer. Of course, this interview didn’t reveal anything regarding that, but Hirabayashi does promise that there are still a lot of character left to be announced. E3, anyone?
So, what do you think? Yeah, this isn’t really anything new, but it’s still nice to get more insight into the development of our anticipated games, especially when that game happens to be Resident Evil 6. Stay tuned for more news on Resident Evil 6 as we continue counting down the days until its November 20th release.
