Wait, what? According to the father of Resident Evil and mainstream survival-horror, Shinji Mikami, something that was lacking in Onimusha 3 is what led to his conceiving of what has now become one of the best games of all time.
When a developer is able to see their flaws and even draw inspiration from them it shows a lot of significance. That’s exactly what happened here with Mikami and the flawed camera in Onimusha 3. “For BioHazard 4 (RE4) it came from playing Onimusha 3,” he states, going on to talk about how it was his post-release desire to have altered the camera differently (behind the shoulder) which led to the creation of Resident Evil 4.
“If only the camera was behind the player, it would have been so much better,” he thought at the time. “That stemmed the idea for creating the camera system–the [third-person shooter] style–in BioHazard 4.”
Dante and the Devil May Cry franchise was born from the early development stages of Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 4 was sprouted from Mikami’s desire to do things differently after the release of Onimusha 3. It’s funny how the world works. You can check out the source below to read some more about Mikami and learn a bit more about Shadows of the Damned.
