Capcom Keeping ‘Resident Evil: Outbreak’ Alive

Capcom has just announced a new mobile entry in the Resident Evil franchise, titled Resident Evil: Outbreak Survive, the game will be hitting Japan’s GREE social gaming platform and its supported phones. The game will put players in the roles of Raccoon City civilians who are pit right in the middle of the T-virus outbreak. You must, as the title suggests, survive which consists of “sharing healing items and assembling teams of rescued allies to overcome numerous and difficult missions”.

The title will be offered as a free-to-play game, with paid add-on content coming post-launch to further expand the experience. Sadly, if this premise sounds promising to you, this game may not end up making it outside of Japan. Regardless, it’s nice to see Capcom still keeping the Outbreak name alive, even if a mobile title isn’t what fans may have had in mind. You can check out the press release and some screens below.

In “Resident Evil: Outbreak Survive”, the first title for GREE, players take on the role of civilians trapped on the zombie-infested streets of Raccoon City. Players will struggle for their own survival while working together with friends, sharing healing items and assembling teams of rescued allies to overcome numerous and difficult missions in this new social survival horror game. In addition to the communication element of social games, this title also enables newcomers to enjoy the tense atmosphere and rich setting of the Resident Evil universe.

The “Resident Evil” series is a survival horror game where players attempt to escape from zombies while using whatever weapons and items they have at their disposal. From its first release in 1996, the “Resident Evil” series has achieved total series sales of over 45 million units and is a flagship brand for Capcom.
