Most people are excited for Resident Evil Revelations return to the series slower-paced puzzle-solving and atmospheric horror roots, but that doesn’t mean Revelations doesn’t have it’s fair share of extra modes, which happen to be Raid Mode and Mission Mode. While these aren’t unlocked until completing the campaign (just like the good ole’ days), Raid Mode is confirmed at least to have local and online co-op play, even if it’s a more action-paced mode. Then again, this isn’t foreign to the series either, as every main Resident Evil title since Resident Evil 2 has had an unlockable Battle minigame in it.
With a bunch of unlockable characters and stages, Raid Mode is less like Mercenaries and more like the Battle Mode of Resident Evil 2 and Code Veronica. Raid Mode features snippets of the main story locations transferred into stages where players fight a large variety of enemies while trying to be as fast, clean, and efficient as possible. At the end players get ranked, which earns them points (which are exchangeable between all modes) and some randomized ‘loot’ (though the quality of the loot is factored by your ranking in a stage).
Here we have almost an hour of Raid Mode footage courtesy of Capcom-Unity, which includes a lot of details on the mode itself as well as two people taking on the first five stages in the mode (there isn’t a clearly defined number of stages in the game, but it appears to be quite a few more than is normally featured in the Mercenaries mode of Resident Evil games).

It looks quite fun and could be fairly addicting for players, though we’re sort of hoping there will be an option to turn off the health and damage gauges in the mode, though they’re thankfully restricted to this mode only. Still, it’s a great source of replay value and looks like a nice addition to the game’s surprising amount of content. With only about a month and a half to release, the game continues to be shaping up nicely.
