Capcom’s upcoming remakes of Resident Evil Zero and Resident Evil: Code Veronica are not expected to match the ambition of 2023’s RE4 remake. This is according to industry insider AestheticGamer aka Dusk Golem.
In a discussion on Discord, Golem emphasized that the RE4 remake was a “crown jewel” for Capcom. The title set a high bar in terms of scale, scope, and expectations. He added that Capcom doesn’t plan for there to be a remake as ‘ambitious’ as RE4.
Dusk Golem revealed that the possibility of making improvements to the original Resident Evil Zero and CV was probably a factor in the decision to remake them. These improvements allow for a more horror-focused design, akin to the highly successful Resident Evil 2 remake. Fan demand and timing also played a role in prioritizing the remakes. This is especially true for Zero, which has strong connections to Capcom’s development teams.
Although Capcom has not officially announced the remakes, it confirmed in December that more Resident Evil remakes are forthcoming. Speculation has been rife, with some expecting Resident Evil 5 to be next, but Dusk Golem dismissed such rumors.
The remakes of Zero and CV are natural choices for Capcom’s continued focus on refining their horror legacy.
