According to the well-known insider Dusk Golem, or Aesthetic Gamer, who has become an expert in leaking information about Capcom and especially Resident Evil, Resident Evil 9 is set to revolutionize the series much like Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 7 did in the past.
This is a ambitious statement considering the impact these two titles had on the series, with major changes in mechanics and atmosphere. Resident Evil 4 brought a more action-oriented direction with its over-the-shoulder third-person view, while Resident Evil 7 shifted the series to first-person, changing the atmosphere and setting dramatically.
The idea that Resident Evil 9 could bring similar innovations to the series is exciting because it suggests we can expect some big, unpredictable changes.
According to Dusk Golem, one of the reasons Resident Evil 9 is taking so long to arrive is because it represents a major reinvention of the series, on the same level as Resident Evil 4 and RE7. “It’s not going to play just like RE7/RE8 or the Remakes, it’s trying new things & very ambitious,” the insider added, confirming that the game will be announced this year, possibly soon.
It’s hard to predict exactly what changes it could bring, but it’s possible that we’ll see more innovations regarding the camera view and setting.
