For as much hate as Capcom titles Resident Evil 5 and DMC have garnered, they sure do sell well. And they’re still selling!
Resident Evil 5 has surpassed the sales of every other Resident Evil title. It’s also become the highest selling Capcom game ever. Since it’s release in 2009, it’s sold more than 6.6 million copies, 100,000 of those having occurred since October, when the announcement of its success was made. Rumour has it that this figure doesn’t even include PC sales.
DMC and Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City have also done pretty well for themselves. In May, sales of DMC sat at 1.1 million – it’s gone up 300,000 copies since then, sitting at 1.4 million while RE: ORC sits nicely at 2.3 million sales.
Of course, this doesn’t include second-hand copies, of which there are probably untold millions floating around as well (I know, they wouldn’t be included because this figure only looks at first-hand sales). So Resident Evil 5 is actually still pretty damned popular! So maybe instead of Resident Evil 4, Capcom should be re-releasing Resident Evil 5?
