Report: Resident Evil 9 Apparently Not "Ready" Yet

Resident Evil fans were left disappointed by the absence of an announcement for Resident Evil 9 during The Game Awards 2024, despite widespread rumors suggesting it was likely. Now, an insider is suggesting that the next installment in Capcom’s iconic survival horror franchise may have been delayed due to development challenges.

Capcom did deliver some exciting announcements during The Game Awards, including a new Onimusha entry and a sequel to Okami. However, Resident Evil 9 was noticeably absent. According to leaker Dusk Golem (thanks Game Rant), the game was originally scheduled for a summer 2024 reveal but has been delayed due to internal development issues.

Dusk Golem further explained that Resident Evil 9 is an ambitious project, requiring more time to refine than the recent remakes in the series. This situation is reminiscent of the Resident Evil 2 remake, which also faced delays after major changes were implemented during development. The leaker suggested that Capcom is still determining the best time to launch the game, but this remains speculative without official confirmation from the studio.

Given the number of projects currently underway at Capcom, it’s not surprising that a title of this scale might need more development time. Some rumors have even suggested the possible return of iconic characters, though none of these claims have been confirmed.

While fans may be growing impatient, it’s likely that the extra development time will be used to ensure a high-quality experience, as has been the case with previous installments in the series. Despite the lack of an official announcement, the delays could be a positive sign: Capcom appears to be taking the necessary time to deliver a product that meets the high expectations of its fanbase.
