In amongst the dense jungles, the beautiful landscapes, and the (new) frozen expanses of Monster Hunter World, a new threat approaches. We’ve seen multiple Capcom (and non-Capcom) universes collide with Monster Hunter World, like featuring Dante (from the Devil May Cry series) and Mega Man, which is no big surprise. Monster Hunter World quickly became Capcom’s highest-selling title of all time after it’s 2018 release, selling 13.1 million units to date. Drawing in even more players by doing cross-overs with other popular franchises is just brilliant — and there’s been one noticeably missing. This might be Capcom’s highest-selling title, but nothing in their library comes close to toppling Resident Evil as being their highest selling franchise — with 92 million sales across 132 releases (100 of which I assume are just RE4). Today, Capcom has revealed that RE will finally be crossing over into the Monster Hunter universe, and it is a sight to behold.
While the trailer does start out pretty serious, mimicking the tone of 2019’s Resident Evil 2 (even recreating Claire and Leon’s first meeting), I’m glad to see that it’s business as usual in this universe. We don’t know all the details yet, but the REmake 2 versions of Leon and Claire are crossing over, accompanied by multiple RE cosmetics (all ported over from REmake 2, from what I can see) and even the big man himself, Mr. X. This is straight-up adorable to see Mr. X, or the T-103 to use his official name, prancing around in Monster Hunter World without a care in the world. Using his main theme under the goofiness is just wonderful as well. We also get to see Tofu as… a keychain?
The Monster Hunter World x REmake 2 event begins this November (shame it’s missing out on Halloween), so we’ll keep you up to date as we learn more.
