Resident Evil 4 Remake is my choice for game of the year. As someone who believed a remake of this landmark title was wholly unnecessary, I was really taken aback by just how good RE4R was. The gameplay additions, character writing, performances, and new level of polish combined to make a great experience and one I hold in equal regard to the original.

The first Resident Evil was my introduction to survival horror in 1996, and it’s great to see these titles getting updated for modern systems and new audiences more recently. The original RE4 was well-regarded, but RE4R has better AI on characters, updated graphics and controls, and expanded and/or new content, making it an enjoyable experience for new and old fans alike.

The Resident Evil 4 Remake is my choice for GOTY. Growing up I cherished each entry in the series as it was released, and the more recent remakes are special because they gave whole new generations of players a chance to try the series. The RE4 remake stunned in every way and re-introduced my personal favorite gaming villain, Albert Wesker, back to the series. Coupled with fun gameplay and fantastic graphics, the game holds a very special place in my heart.
