Rebellion teases their next project, has a Nightmarish feel to it

Rebellion is not the most immediately recognizable development studio in the gaming industry, but chances are you’ve played their games. They are the minds behind the cult classic 1994 Atari Jaguar exclusive Alien vs Predator, and in 1999 they released what many people consider to be the best AVP game ever made with Aliens vs Predator for the PC. A game that was absolutely terrifying when you played as a Marine, tossing flares around dark corridors while listening to the low echo of your motion tracker, praying it didn’t pick up something nefarious lurking in the shadows. Well it looks like at long last Rebellion is looking to once again enter the horror genre, this time harkening back to yet another franchise from the 80’s.

Right now all we have to go on is a couple teaser trailers regarding their next project, and neither of which tell us an awful lot. The teasers give us no indication on how it will be played, the plot, or even the title of the project. However the tone and imagery on display in the teasers in most certainly of a horror nature with bodies, blood, pentagrams, and environments drenched in darkness.

Probably the most curiously notable thing about the teasers is on the second one, a child is singing a song eerily similar to that of the “1, 2 Freddy’s coming for you” song from the A Nightmare On Elm Street film series. If you listen to both songs back to back, they are nearly identical, with only a  few of the lyrics being distorted beyond recognition in the Rebellion teaser.

While this is certainly an interesting thing to ponder, it’s pretty unlikely that Rebellion is working on a game with the Nightmare On Elm Street licence, it’s more than likely just paying homage to the classic slasher franchise. We’ll keep you updated as to what this project actually is when more details are given.
