I can’t say I’m surprised exactly, but this is news regardless.
So after RE7‘s tremendous VR experience (really, it has to be experienced at least once, it’s a totally different kind of horror), fans have been curious as to whether or not RE2 Remake would be getting any VR support as well, especially seeing as it was built in the same engine and (so far) appears to be recycling lots of incidental assets. Welp, during an interview with the Daily Star, producers Tsuyoshi Kanda and Yoshiaki Hirabayashi explained:
“We’re not thinking about VR support currently, given that the camera perspective and the over-the-shoulder choice would mean that VR is not the best way to present the game,VR doesn’t match the vision for us.”
When asked about the Rat’s POV opening of the E3 reveal trailer, they said:
“…thinking about it, maybe giving you the rat’s eye view in the trailer might have given people the wrong idea! But if you think there is Rat VR coming… that’s not the case.”
So there you have it. Like I said, I’m not surprised, especially seeing how graphically intensive RE2 Remake looks. As gorgeous as RE7 was, it was pretty clearly held back by VR, even in regular gameplay there were lots of texture popping and fuzzy visuals in some sections. RE2 Remake is clearly pushing the new RE Engine to its limits, so they probably didn’t want to sacrifice any of that either. Regardless, I’m overjoyed with RE2 Remake so far, and can’t wait to get my hands on it, VR or no.
