RE2 Remake: First Look at the RPD S.T.A.R.S. Office!

RE2 Remake has shown off almost the entire RPD building at this point, save for a few rooms and much of the western second and third floors, but there’s one area, in particular, I think fans have been chomping at the bit to see. The S.T.A.R.S. office is our only link to our friends from the first Resident Evil in RE2, and visiting it conjures bittersweet memories even now. The demos we’ve seen have deftly avoided entering the home of Alpha and Bravo teams, but Capcom has finally shown off at least a portion of what it looks like now in a screenshot promoting the classic costumes.

Much like the rest of the new RPD building, the S.T.A.R.S. office appears to be completely different aesthetically while keeping the general layout and spirit. The angle appears to be looking at the wall across from the entrance door, with Barry, Chris, Jill, and Rebecca’s desks from left to right. Rebecca’s desk even has her medical pouch still on the wall (which housed a secret first aid spray previously). The walls are lined with awards and commendations now, as opposed to more personalized clutter- although Chris’ “Made in Heaven” jacket can still be seen on a coat rack right behind Leon’s left elbow. Wesker’s desk, the radio station, and the new armory aren’t visible in this shot, but given how the layout appears the same we can guess that they’re probably in the same places.

I can’t wait to explore this office once the game releases. Unlike most of the rest of the RPD building, it’s never been recreated in subsequent visits to the location, only appearing in RE2 and 3 (and using the exact same pre-rendered backgrounds for both). This will be our first time seeing a new version, not to mention our first look at the office of the REmake version of S.T.A.R.S. from 2002 (as in things like the group photo will probably be using those versions of the characters). Here’s hoping the offices’ secrets are still intact as well, most notably the hidden photo in Wesker’s desk (they can even use the new RE0 version if need be – although it’d be hilarious to just use the original terrible photoshop).

I’m waiting is jittery anticipation to discover this new version, and you better believe I’m cranking the original theme from RE2 as well. RE2 Remake, of course, releases January 25th, which is only 3 months away!
