RE2 Remake: Extended Claire Demo Shows off New Areas and Cutscenes

So a little while back we got our first look at Claire gameplay in RE2 Remake, albeit heavily edited and missing music. Now, from TGS, we finally have a look at more or less the entire demo, which shows off a bunch of new stuff. Sadly it’s hard to really hear anything as the developers are talking over it, but at least we can look.

I’m very surprised by what we see here, as it’s more or less entirely new. My best guess for where the demo starts is Irons’ office, but I can’t find anywhere on the maps we’ve seen so far that matches up to the layout of this room. This location you walk down a flight of stairs leading to a circular room with a door directly to the right of the entrance. That door opens into a small room with an elevator. There’s nothing even remotely like this area on any of the maps we’ve seen so far, and it can’t be Irons’ office as the elevator would be cutting directly into the interrogation rooms on the floor below.

While I had originally suspected that this area may be a part of the library section, commenter J Le made an excellent point (and even backed it up with some solid evidence, Ace Attorney style) that this area is actually what lies below the statue in the main hall, which requires three crests to open. The area actually matches up perfectly with the map Elliot drew in his notebook. I am curious as to why the office area, which was locked behind a complicated puzzle lock hidden inside a statue, is in such great condition. Perhaps it’s a secret, secondary office for Irons that he uses often for his less legal activities? Or perhaps it’s way less complicated than that, and this is just another office used by some other official within the RPD, and they just simply didn’t know that it was connected to the secret path? Only time will tell.

The fight with Birkin plays out more or less the same as before, although now we see Claire come up victorious. Birkin scrambles out like a little bitch (which is actually more or less what he does in the original game as well), and if you can hear over the developers answering questions and laughing we get some nice character moments with Claire and Sherry. We also get a pretty shocking look at how much the game has grown visually since E3, as pointed out by Reddit user u/UpTo1Minute.

Wow, they honestly look like two different games. TGS is on the left, E3 reveal trailer on the right.

We also get a longer look at the ending cutscene with Irons assaulting Claire. God damn, he’s such a total bastard now.I love it. If you’re interested, there’s also a second video that doesn’t go as well, with Claire’s head getting pulverized in the end. It’s difficult to tell whether or not this game over is censored or not, seeing as this is the Japanese version being played. RE2 will be getting an uncensored version, but that’s not the version being played on stage in Japan, so I guess we’ll see. RE has had some pretty horrific game overs in the past, and considering how grotesque RE2 REmake already looks I wouldn’t be surprised if this holds with that.

We’re still waiting on a “clean” version of this footage (as in nobody talking over it), so we can hear what the new music sounds like (it’s there, but barely audible). We’ll update this when or if that footage becomes available.
