R.I.P.:Nightmare Creatures III lives on through these pieces of concept art

Trying to get a share in Resident Evil’s success with making survival horror a maintstream genre among gamers, Kalisto Entertainment crafted their own survival horror title, Nightmare Creatures. There are similarities with the aforementioned father of modern survival horror, but where it drifts away from being a mere clone is in its time period.

Released on the PS1, Nightmare Creatures pit players in 19th century London in the role of either a female warrior (Nadia) or a male monk (Ignatius). Like Resident Evil, an outbreak was the cause of the troubles the players would face in this horror title. “Outlandish creatures” were ravaging the land brought about by an evil cult and it was up to you to get to the root of it all.

The game did a good enough job to garner a sequel, and Nightmare Creatures II saw release in the year 2000. Then Kalisto Entertainment went on to announce the threequel, obviously, Nightmare Creatures III: Angel of Darkness. The third game in the short-lived series was set to land on the PS2, Gamecube and Xbox. But then, unfortunately, Kalisto went down.

Angel of Darkness sounded pretty interesting as well, what with the heroine of the game being able to fuse with her pet raven. The game’s plot was to be set in 19th century Prague. But as aforementioned, Kalisto went out of business and Ubisoft ended up gaining complete ownership over the game. But alas, the game itself got cancelled at the hands of Ubisoft.

The game lives on though! Sort of. Below you can check out concept art for the game, among which is a very Birkin-esque (4th form) creature, that never was. The images have surfaced thanks to artist Arthur Hugot (you can check out his work here).
