Konami started off the pre-E3 craziness today with quite a showing for one of gaming’s most treasured franchises. They released a 6-minute trailer for the upcoming conclusion to Mercury Steam’s Castlevania trilogy, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2. And it’s beyond amazing.
Spoilers for anyone who hasn’t beaten the first game, though! But, come on, if you still haven’t, you definitely should go get yourself a copy (and if you have a 3DS, definitely purchase the excellent Mirror of Fate)! It’s one of the best single player games this generation, and it ranks up there with some of my favorite games of all time. Judging by this new trailer for the numbered sequel, and all the info we have, I wouldn’t be surprised if Lords of Shadow 2 ends up dethroning it.
The trailer is downright epic and starts off with the dialogue from the first game’s epilogue. Which brings us to the next bit of news: the game will be open world in its modern-day setting. Don’t worry, we’ll also be spending a good chunk of the game in the titular castle. I’ll keep on dreaming that we get to see Julius Belmont at some point in the modern portion of the story. (I know your secrets, Konami!).
Then, we get to see some crazy Dracula action, with Gabriel showing off some new abilities and going up against some cool-looking new monsters. It looks like we’ll be facing bosses even larger than the Titan bosses from the first game! Everything is set to an amazing track from Oscar Araujo. My ears were blessed.
Oh, and that wolf is just way too adorable. Like, seriously. Alucard, maybe?
