The mysterious Supperannuation has done some sleuthing (as they usually do) and posted some of the details over on Kotaku regarding a potential sequel to Playdead’s Limbo. We knew that Playdead was working on a sequel shortly after the release of Limbo, however details have been pretty scarce on what the project was looking like.
Details of the game come from a listing of interactive grant recipients from the Danish government. The title is only placeholder for now, as Playdead hasn’t officially revealed it.
Project 2 will be a 2.5D platformer that will tell the story of a boy’s struggle against evil forces trying ot take over the world through questionable experiments on human bodies. The game will be released for the PS3, Xbox 360, PC and Mac. And get this, it’ll be in colour.
This picture accompanied the project description. Seems like an appropriate direction for Playdead, no?
Playdead CEO Dino Patti stated last year that the artwork wasn’t quite there yet, so we could still see changes. Dino had also noted that [Project 2] is similar in many ways, but so different, and more weird in many ways. Danish newspaper Politiken called Playdead’s next game “A bleak spiritual successor to the award-winning Limbo.”
Unfortunately, Playdead expects production on the game to last at least three and a half years. So we shouldn’t expect the game until sometime in 2014.
