Perhaps one of the most celebrated indie horror games of this generation, Phasmophobia continues to draw in players, thanks to its unique ghost hunting mechanics. The team behind it is constantly tweaking it with updates a-plenty, and it’s recently been announced that the first event of 2025 will be coming soon.
Across all platforms, the next update for the game will be rolling out from April 17 onwards, and will bring with it the “Cursed Hollow” event. More details will be arriving about the exact release times, but over on the Phasmophobia website, developer Kinetic Games gives us the lowdown on what to expect.
When it launches next week, the event will task players with “uncovering the secrets of the Cursed Hollow by identifying ghosts, completing objectives and discovering the totems scattered across the maps.” The maps themselves will be themed after the event. However, you’ll also be haunted by the Forest Spirit, with each totem you find effecting the outcome, which could be good or bad.

There are rewards for completing the challenge, and will fall into two categories: Community and Personal. The latter – as the name implies – will be unique to each individual player, which “adds an extra incentive for players to continue playing and unlock an ID card upgrade that’ll be available only to those that complete their Personal goal.”
Kinetic has also been listening to feedback from the community since the previous events, “Crimson’s Eye” and “Winter’s Jest.” With “Cursed Hollow,” there will be some improvements for the event, such as a daily rotation of each map (which includes the small and medium levels) to add variety, a shorter event duration (three weeks instead of a whole month), and gameplay modifiers.
On top of that, Phasmphobia will also be rolling out some general improvements to the game when the event rolls out. The studio has also said it will be revealing a trailer at the Galaxies Showcase over on Twitch. That will be going ahead next week at 8PM BST.
