[Update: The new kickstarter has aired and will be aiming for a minimum $200,000, roughly 10% of which it obtained while I was sleeping. That’s a pretty good start, right?]
Spicy Horse has cancelled its Kickstarter for OZombie and will now be focusing on obtaining the film rights for American McGee’s Alice. McGee has stated that the company may return to Oz at a later time, but that won’t be anytime soon.
The reason for the cancellation was, primarily, because the studio only had a limited amount of time to obtain the film rights for Alice and Kickstarter doesn’t allow for multiple fundraisers at the same time. They would have to sit out the remaining twenty days before they could start a new project, at which point the offer might already be gone. Since OZombie wasn’t exactly thriving, with projections showing it would only reach 30% of its goal, it seemed like a better route to just cancel it.
Spicy Horse did consider IndieGoGo, another fundraiser website, but decided against it, as it might cause confusion and they weren’t sure how much awareness they could generate on the platform. The new Kickstarter campaign will be launched soon, but below you can already see a preview for its pitch video.
