IGN has the skinny on Outlast 2‘s preacher, Sullivan Knoth, seemingly the main antagonist of the upcoming game. You may know him from the backmasked trailer released a few weeks ago.
Sullivan Knoth, a former shoe salesman in Albuquerque, New Mexico, facing debt one day heard the word of god in Evangelical radio broadcasts. Underneath the preacher’s voices, he believed he heard the true word of god. Inspired by what he heard, he went out into the night where he came across a “terrible angle, a many-faced creature crowned in fire” (Walrider anyone?). From that point on, with “God” by his side, he set out to preach his newfound gospel and inspire those around to join the cause.
Sullivan and his followers retreated deep into the desert to establish a commune away from scrutiny. And given this is an Outlast game, some creepy shit was planned. Based on my time with the demo, that’s 100% accurate.
Has the Walrider found a vessel in Sullivan Knoth’s insanity? Perhaps. Red Barrels has stated that the sequel has an all new story with new characters, but have they ditched the supernatural force in the first game for another that’s unrelated? I’m anxious to find out.
