Ah, fellow Kindred, if there is one delight we all know deep in our cold hearts… it’s just joy of music. The music from the original VTM: Bloodlines to be exact, a simply wonderful score for nighttime activities. Dripping with early 2000s gothic darkness, Rik Schaffer’s score for the 2002 horror RPG is so deeply burned into the brains of fans that just hearing the Downtown Theme immediately puts us right back there, exploring the streets. There really isn’t anything out there quite like it, and we’ve been eagerly anticipating hearing more of Schaffer’s score for Bloodlines 2 when that game releases next year. The score for the original Bloodlines hasn’t ever been officially released (there was a pre-order soundtrack featuring some of the licensed music), and what we’ve had to make do with over the years is a set of tracks ripped directly from the game. Now, for the first time, Schaffer has gone back and is remastering the original score for a new generation. Releasing on both Vinyl and CD October 25th, the album contains a selection of tracks from the original game and some wicked looking LPs.
I am a little let down by how small the selection is (only 17 tracks, leaving out a lot of the incidental tracks), and it’s missing all of the licensed music (although it is, of course, a remaster of just Schaffer’s work). That said, it does have all of the essentials — each main theme and the main story event tracks. There are even a few tracks like All That Could Ever Be, which wasn’t used in the actual game.

We’re super delighted, and you can bet your blood that we’ll be picking up a copy as soon as it releases. You can pre-order it from Amazon, and play it in your car’s stereo at 2 am while you cruise on the hunt. Until then, the original VTM Bloodlines is still available on Steam and GOG for $19.99 at the moment. With a little fan-patching, it’s still one of the best western RPGs out there, and easily has one of the best scores of any of them as well. Get out there, and embrace those tunes, Kindred.
