As excited as I am for Alien: Isolation after playing it at E3, the idea of experiencing it via Oculus Rift was a delicious dream even more tantalizing than playing via a silly that-is-so-last-century monitor. Unfortunately, it seems that dream will remain unattainable. Coming from Eurogamer’s ever-vigilant cyber-surveillance team is news that the VR prototype shown at E3 is not going to be available to the public. Here’s a tweet from The Creative Assembly’s official Alien: Isolation twitter account:
@xopsx@VRBrighton@TheMightyGit@Pipsissiwa What we’ve got at the moment with @oculus is a prototype, there’s no full game in dev 🙂

That’s already fairly forthcoming, but a statement issued to Eurogamer went into further detail:
At present, it’s just a prototype and does not represent a game currently in development at this point in time. It’s a truly amazing experience though and brings the game to life in ways we could not have imagined when we started the project. It’s one of the most terrifying demos you’ll ever play.
I’m not altogether suprised, considering the Oculus hasn’t been released yet and it wouldn’t be altogether lucrative for The Creative Assembly. Ah well. Would’ve been pants-shittingly fun.
