NightCry Kickstarter drops story details

NightCry, the upcoming game from Nude Maker and the original creator of Clock Tower, aims to release later this year. With their Kickstarter to fund development of a PC version of the game, the creators of NightCry have released two updates on the game’s story to wet the appetite of backers and hopefully convince more people to contribute.

The story of NightCry takes place on the Oceanus, a premium class cruiser liner that began service in 2003. Weighing 47050 tonnes, and able to accommodate up to 790 passengers, the Oceanus is manned by a crew of 514. It is one of the oldest model cruiser liners owned and managed by Goldhorn Cruise Line. The class of rooms passengers stay in are separated by floor, and the quality of service is clearly different.

This cruise begins from Venezia, Italy, making a stop at Southampton, England, then finally crossing the Atlantic en route for the Caribbean Islands.

The heroine and her friends are college students from North America that had fieldwork training in the Aegean islands, making their trip back on this cruise liner.

Today the team has released some additional details, briefly laying out how the madness begins on the Oceanus at the start of the game.

On the party floor aboard the ship, passengers are enjoying the glamorous honeymoon ball. Behind the celebrative scene, the gateway to hell is set to open aboard the Oceanus.

Suddenly, a herd of ghastly people run towards Monica, who has just left the dance floor for a breath of fresh air. A blood-thirsty killer with large scissors appears, the source of a horrific massacre. Without knowing who the killer is or why it is stalking her, Monica is forced to run for her life.

At the party, however, Jerome meets Rooney, who is always being followed by a mysterious young girl. Empathizing with each others’ emotional and mental anguish, they begin to open up to one another. However, something ominous lingers in the air. Jerome encounters a bizarre phenomenon, neither hallucination nor reality, on his way back to his room. From a distance, the Masked Collective watches on.

“LIMBO always overlaps with reality. This is why humans must always gather the threads of life in fear――”

With words in ancient text from the Kassite Dynasty, the horrific situation gets worse in the closed cruise liner. Will the main characters fall into the dark abyss, more terrifying than hell, or will they…?

NightCry‘s premise sounds like something that we would have seen during the PS2 days, and I like that. Thankfully, regardless of Kickstarter success or not, we’ll see the game in one form or another. But let’s hope it succeeds so it can be made available on more platforms! More graphics, more hair, more scary!
