Nicalis reveals technical details of The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth

Nicalis founder, Tyrone Rodriguez took over Edmund McMillen’s The Binding of Isaac blog to share the upcoming game’s technical details with us. This might be a bit complicated, but I will break it down in simple terms:

  • Rebirth will run at 60 frames per second on both PlayStation systems. The original game ran at half that speed.
  • The resolution is set an at unconventional 480×272, which was the standard for the PSP (Vita uses 960×544). According to Nicalis, this is ideal for the pixel art style they chose to use.
  • The controls can be remapped to any button you prefer.
  • Because the Vita is the weakest device, it will have less shaders and other visual effects in favor of maintaining the aforementioned 60 frames per second.
  • You can save a code, known as a “seed”, if you had an interesting run and share it with your friends. If they enter the seed, they will be able to play the same dungeon as you did.

Those are the five most important facts in the post, but if you want to hear more about the development process, then I can recommend reading the piece yourself.
