Next-Gen Resident Evil 4 To Have Control Tweaks

If you’re looking for at least one major update to the upcoming release of Resident Evil 4 on Xbox One and PlayStation 4, we may have it for you.

Spotted by Redditor MrFrench7ickler, the trailer for Resident Evil 4 that you can view on PlayStation 4 shows off some gameplay, and at one point, you can see a new change made to the game. Shown during the scoped view of the automatic Sniper Rifle, using the infrared scope to draw a bead on a Regenerador’s Plagas, you can see that the on-screen controls display using the right stick, or R3, to aim.

In every other version of Resident Evil 4 to date (except the Wii version cuz… you know, it’s the Wii version), aiming was only done with the left stick, regardless of your control setup. This can be frustrating with the newer control scheme offered in the Xbox 360/PS3 version of the game, which matches RE5‘s control layout (Left Trigger/L2 to aim, Left bumper/L1 to aim knife), where the idea of aiming with the Left stick feels bizarre and unintuitive. Looks like that problem is getting fixed. That said, this has raised questions as to whether or not Resident Evil 4 might be getting fully modernized controls, with move and shoot aiming, ala Resident Evil 6. While I won’t rule out the possibility, I highly doubt it. Moving and aiming would be a drastic overhaul to the game, and unbalance the crap out of it. The enemies movement and speed is designed around Leon being rooted to the floor while taking aim, and if we could move, the entire game would suddenly feel very slow, or look very goofy.

Only time will tell, the game is currently available for pre-order, and will release digitally and physically August 30th.
