For many Silent Hill fans, Akira Yamaoka’s soundtracks are some of the best in the genre. The Japanese composer’s work has evolved alongside the beloved series to deliver some of the most terrifying, moving, and tense moments in gaming. While it doesn’t look like there will be any new Silent Hill tracks coming from Yamaoka anytime soon, that hasn’t stopped fans from putting out albums that pay tribute to the composer’s signature style.
Australian composer Moxie has released a new album that is described as “A love letter album to the music of Silent Hill and its aural conductor Akira Yamaoka.” Titled Blue Horror, the album does a good job of paying homage to the mechanical, industrial sounds of Yamaoka’s more atmospheric tracks. The album might lack Yamaoka’s unique guitar riffs and Mary Elizabeth McGlynn’s fantastic vocals, but its a worthy tribute to the sounds that made Silent Hill special.
