With Spike’s VGAs just around the corner, employees at the rumour mill are working overtime trying to uncover as much as they possibly can about the show’s lineup and what could possibly be waiting for us.
Although it didn’t have a title at the time, Until Dawn actually made a candid appearance back in 2009 as part of a Playstation Move promotional video. We brought you news of this last year with the hopes that we’d be seeing a new survival horror IP in 2011. Well here we are in 2011, hoping to see more of that new survival-horror IP in 2012. Addict Game has it on good authority that this might just be an exclusive reveal at this year’s VGAs.
The Playstation Move has pretty slim pickings when it comes to hardcore horror/suspense titles. Sure we have Resident Evil 5, Heavy Rain, HoTD: Overkill Extended Cut and the announcement of the Resident Evil Chronicles games, but…well we don’t want to sound greedy, but…we want more. Please?
Controlling the flashlight via the Move controller. It’s so obvious! …now.
Back when Until Dawn was first shown, Paul Gale from the Paul Gale Network (smooth) sought out an inside contact on the matter, and came back with:
This new game will appeal to all of our fans, including the hardcore.
Since then, there were rumours that the game was cancelled during some Sony layoffs in Europe. However PSM3 (via Addict Games) had this to say about the game a little more recently, implying that the game might be back on the path to being in our Playstations sometime soon.
Sony haven’t officially announced the game yet, but we saw snippets of it as early as 2009, back when it flickered for a few seconds in a Move announcement video.
It’s in development at Sony America and is said to be a more ‘serious’ take on the zombie genre than the PSN game Dead Nation. So what do we know now? Well not much. The brief clip shows characters moving through gloomy rooms by flashlight – which it seems you point around with the Move – with a look of terror on their faces.
Back when we first saw the promotional video, Playstation Lifestyle pretty much pinned it when they said that Until Dawn was probably the most appealing game shown in the Move promotional video. It’s a shame that we are just now getting a name for it.
We’ll bring you more about Until Dawn when it becomes available.
