Update: Neil Druckmann has today clarified some details that got skewed in the game of internet telephone. The epilogue did not take years after the game’s ending, but weeks. The epilogue was also written for the One Night Live event.

Original Post: While the audience of The Last of Us: One Night Live may have been the only people to actually see the content first hand, word from attendees of the event have said that an epilogue to The Last of Us was shown during the show.

Audience members were given a scene written by Naughty Dog’s Neil Druckmann, writer of The Last of Us, set four years after the events of the game. Users on NeoGaf describe the scene as conceptual, with voiceovers and music.

The scene takes place at Tommy dam one night 4 years later. Joel talks about how Tommy trying to get Joel hitched to a girl named Esther. El lies acting fairly distant, probably conflicted about joels lie. Joel then said he has a special gift for her and busts out a guitar. Then he plays a special song for her. Then he gives her guitar and promises to teach her. The scene ends with her striking a note on the guitar

Druckmann is said to have called this scene a goodbye to Joel and Ellie, but many people are already freaking out and taking this as a hint that a sequel is very much an idea that Naughty Dog may explore. Perhaps they will in the future, but right now all we have is a new scene and a lot of hype. Some speculate that the content is in the Remastered edition, which seems plausible.

I’ll update this post if any new development are made and if the content appears online in a watchable form. In the meantime, just breath.
