Woah, this somehow flew under our radar! Monster Prom was a fun and cute surprise last year, offering a gender-neutral, carefree, and distinctly spooky co-op dating experience. From smoldering demons and slutty ghosts, to uppity medusas and jock wolfmen, there was a horror sweetheart for everyone. After a pretty sizable update and DLC, it looks like they’re ready to move on to round 2! Well, game 2, with Monster Prom 2: Holiday Season — which was successfully kickstarted (and then some) last month. All our favorite monsters are returning, with new ones added into the dating pool, and new mechanics. From the Kickstarter description:

The original Monster Prom is a multiplayer dating sim that shines for its beautiful art and unapologetic humor.
The sequel is… something different. It’s 3-games-in-1. Because we weren’t sure which kind of vacations to take, we chose 3: Summer Camp, Winter Retreat and Roadtrip. So each game is smaller than the original one, but they’re the same size when put together. And each time you play, you can choose which game suits you better that time.
The three versions offer wildly different experiences: Summer Camp (which is closer to the first game in that it’s still a dating sim), Winter Retreat (which is more gamified, taking sides between two teams and building up yours to win in a strategy snow-ball fight ala FFTA), and Roadtrip (where you pick up hitchhikers and plan your ultimate road trip… without winding up stranded and out of gas). The idea sounds like a lot of fun, especially since easily the best aspect of the first was the characters and their personalities (and the narrator). I honestly just kind of want an animated series set in this universe, but a sequel is more than welcome.
We’ll keep our eyes open on this — it isn’t out until October 2020 (and that’s an estimate) but there will probably be more to see in the time to come. Until then, both Monster Prom and it’s DLC, Second Semester, are on sale for 50% and 25% off respectively on Steam. Pick them up if you like a really good, and genuinely charming, time.
