The popular Japanese action RPG Monster Hunter Frontier G, in which players hunt down powerful monsters in order to craft armor and weapons out of their hides, will be part of a cross-over campaign with the Puella Magi Madoka Magica horror/dark-fantasy franchise.
While Madoka is most popular for its anime and manga, the series also contains two games that were released exclusively in Japan. One of these is a typical visual novel that follows the plot of the show and the other is a third-person action game, neither of which are likely to ever come out overseas. During the cross-over event, people playing Monster Hunter: Frontier G on any of the systems it is available for (Wii U, Xbox 360, Playstation 3, Windows PC and Playstation Vita) will be able to obtain the magical girl outfits of the main cast, as well as their iconic weapons. Also available are a Kyubey and Charlotte costumes, though I can’t imagine these will have matching weaponry.
The trailer below shows off these suits in action, but I am somewhat confused as to why Kyoko’s spear is considered a sword and not a lance; the lances are the only weapons in Monster Hunter that I am actually decent with, darn it. Sadly, this event too will go down into the history books as an awesome thing us westerners never got to participate in.
