Minecraft resource packs are nothing new. For years, modders have made all-in-one packs that swap textures, change renderers and add new effects to Minecraft. Heck, Microsoft is making one themselves with the big 4K update they announced at E3. But a new resource pack from modder fancreeper looks to transform Minecraft into a fairly convincing horror game. Once complete, making horror environments will be easy for anyone.
The in-development mod makes changes to how textures appear so they’re blended together to make surfaces more realistic. Customized lightmaps for all aspects of the Minecraft’s worlds have been created, making interiors especially spooky; a quick glimpse at the Nether evokes Silent Hill otherworld vibes. The mod includes custom sounds and 3D models as well to make doors and switches theme-appropriate. Drop some Endermen and pig zombies in there and you’ve got yourself a nice intro to horror games for your kids.
The resource pack has been in development on and off for four years and will include a custom map created once released. You can follow its creator here. I stumbled upon this on Reddit, and color me impressed. I’ll have to try this out in the future.
