Nintendo has been quiet in regards to the Metroid franchise recently after the release of Other M. No announcements came out of E3 despite the series’ 25th anniversary being this year (sound familiar?). This doesn’t mean us Metroid fans will be completely left out in the cold, though, as this recent trademark suggests.
METROID has just been trademarked by Nintendo in Japan (with caps and all) and this brings up an interesting question: New game or a 3D Classics version of the original NES title? I’m leaning towards the latter and Nintendo may opt to release it on the 3DS’ eShop just in time for the anniversary. Why not release Metroid II: Return of Samus on the 3DS’ virtual console while you’re at it, Nintendo? Or better yet, announce a 3D Classics version of Super Metroid; now that would be amazing.
