This is kind of neat, seeing an indie grow up in a way. Lunacy: Saint Rhodes started as an indie demo on itch.io a year ago, and picked up a lot of steam among the YouTube crowd. Now it’s being turned into a full game published by Iceberg Interactive slated for release in 2019. From the press release:
Lunacy: Saint Rhodes is a truly terrifying experience, unravelling the horrific tale of the events in the town of Saint Rhodes. Frightening creatures roam the streets, guided by The Author, as you explore the minutely detailed town, in search of clues to help you survive. No single visit to the town will be the same, with multiple non-linear paths leading to different outcomes.
-
An advanced AI watches your every move and ensures that you never really feel safe
-
True atmospheric horror, enhanced by the beautifully crafted environments of Saint Rhodes
-
Harrowing storyline involving a family with a dark past
-
Terrifying enemies, all requiring a different approach
-
Multiple paths to take and outcomes to experience
It feels like it’s been a little while since AI was a selling point. AI can vastly change an experience, for good or bad, and it’s one of those late PS2 era early 360 era things that I don’t think we get enough of anymore. Here’s hoping this “Author” is all it’s cracked up to be, because that could really make this game soar. I’m also digging the look, blending sort of a Resident Evil 7 meets Silent Hill meets Layers of Fear thing going on. You can check out the trailer below, and the game is available to be “wishlisted” on Steam, with a 2019 release date slated.
