‘Lords of Shadow’ Sequel Possibilities May Include ‘1999’ Game And Dracula’s Curse Reboot

While ‘vania fans right now are more eager in learning about the release date for Lords of Shadow’s ‘Resurrection’ DLC, this is still some very promising news.

David Cox via Twitter has answered a question from a curious fan who wanted to know if the next ‘vania game Cox and his team at Mercury Steam will be tackling would be based  around the highly-demanded ‘1999’ story or if it would be a re-telling of the events in Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse. “Both are interesting ideas…” replies Lords of Shadow’s producer. You can view both tweets below.

What’s significant about Cox’s repsonse is that usually, when a developer is questioned about a sequel the usual response is “we have no plans for a sequel at this time” or something along those lines. Cox opted to actually a give a much more significant response, claiming that both the ‘1999’ idea and a re-telling of Trevor Belmont’s exploits were of an interesting nature.

This also brings up something else interesting. If Mercury Steam decides to go the ‘1999’ route then things in the sequel would ideally pick up directly from where Lords of Shadow’s epilogue ended. If they opt to go with a pseudo-Dracula’s Curse remake then it seems that this Lords of Shadow universe, despite not being part of the official time-line, may still include the major story beats from the franchise, revolving around the major players which of course includes Trevor Belmont.

Which option would you desire the most? Could we at last be getting closer to actually getting a ‘vania game revolved around the events of ‘1999’, the Demon Castle War.
