The Vanishing of Ethan Carter is coming out in just over a month, and now we have some gameplay to watch and hopefully pique our interest. Paul Prospero, the private investigator we will be inhabiting, has a deep damned voice that makes me a little bit jealous. The footage is incredibly gorgeous; foliage billows gently in the softly cooing wind as Paul looks over scenic valley vistas.
My weak American ears can’t discern who this gameplay video is narrated by, though I was able to gather that he is a member of The Astronauts, Ethan Carter’s developer. He describes some of the private investigator’s abilities as we watch them unfold. The floating text is a cool effect and gives what seems like a very open game some direction. An action game this isn’t, and these detective skills seem to be the main meat of the experience. If you’re worried about spoilers in the video, fear not, chum, as Mr. Astronaut skips past anything too revelatory. I haven’t been following Ethan Carter too closely but this video has put it solidly on my radar. I’ll be playing it on September 25, on release. Will you unravel the mystery? NO, ME FIRST.
