Christian Svensson took to his Google+ account today to announce that he is leaving Capcom. Svennson, who served as a senior vice president of the company stated that he had actually volunteered to be laid off in the company’s reorganization. He’d been with the company for eight years, and called yesterday “a bittersweet” day.
It’s not all that common to see a member of the senior management team volunteer to leave what could be argued a cushy job. And even though Svensson volunteered to leave, he made a point in his post to mention that others within the company were not so lucky.
In the near term, here’s where I need your help. Sadly, I’m not the only one affected by the reorganization today. Over the next few days, I’ll be gathering resumes from as many as I can and will be sending them out to my contacts around the industry to see if there’s a “love connection” to be made.
At the same time, if your company is hiring in one of these areas, please let me know…
Capcom officially responded to Joystiq regarding the layoffs with the following:
Capcom today laid off several employees from the US office as part of an overall organizational restructure of the company. The transition to the new generation of hardware and changing industry landscape have required us to adapt our business to best meet our new goals. We sincerely thank each individual for their contributions and wish them well.
Several could mean 8, or several could also mean 80. Capcom hasn’t made that much clear yet. This isn’t the first in the mountain of woes for Capcom, and it certainly won’t be the last. With their more recent business practices leaving a bit of a sour taste in our mouths, Capcom isn’t exactly many’s favourite video game company. However, condolences for whoever lost their job, and here’s hoping that they can pick up the pieces with new companies.
