Frictional Games’ much anticipated Amnesia: Rebirth is just eleven days away from release, and the game still remains a mystery. What we do know is that the latest entry in the series trades castles and the victorian-era urban environments from its predecessors with “the horrors of the Algerian desert.”
The Amnesia: Rebirth – Story & Environments Trailer introduces a character named Salim, a survivor of a plane crash who traded one nightmarish situation for another. Deep in the desert a dark and ancient city of sorts resides, where Salim — and later protagonist Tasi — encounters evil forces. The trailer showcases various locations — caverns, tombs, and eldritch places of worship. From this trailer alone, it’s clear that Rebirth will likely feature the most visually diverse environments in the series. Hopefully the story is on par with Frictional Games’ excellent SOMA as well.
In Amnesia: Rebirth, you are Tasi Trianon, waking up deep in the desert of Algeria. Days have passed. Where have you been? What did you do? Where are the others? Retrace your journey, pull together the fragments of your shattered past; it is your only chance to survive the pitiless horror that threatens to devour you.
“Do not allow yourself anger, do not allow yourself to fear.”
Time is against you. Step into Tasi’s shoes and guide her through her personal terror and pain. While you struggle to make your way through a desolate landscape, you must also struggle with your own hopes, fears, and bitter regrets. And still you must continue, step by step, knowing that if you fail you will lose everything.
Amnesia: Rebirth releases on October 20th on PC and PlayStation 4. Pre-orders are available on Steam, GOG.com, the Epic Games Store, and on the PlayStation Store.
