Just when you thought the leaks wouldn’t stop, here they are again. The Last of Us 2, arguably one of the most anticipated games for the PS4 along with FF7R, has leaked. Not just a little leak, but major cutscenes and some gameplay has spilled out across the internet. These leaks aren’t like the usual 4chan ramblings (which happened a week or so ago) where there’s nothing to back them up — these are fully voiced, fully rendered videos taken directly from the game. It cannot be over-emphasized how careful you’re going to have to be if you don’t want to be spoiled now, the details included in the footage are in no way minor. Two of the videos, in particular, give away what is most probably the lynchpin to The Last of Us 2‘s plot — it’s that bad.
Some have been quick to speculate that the footage comes from a disgruntled Naughty Dog employee, due to code still running on-screen during play, although there’s no way of knowing for sure. That news does make sense following reports of poor working conditions in the lead-up to release, but things lining up don’t make something true necessarily. Don’t go throwing blame around without knowing for sure.
This leak is made all the more tragic due to Last of Us 2 originally having been planned to release in February, then pushed back to May, and now delayed indefinitely. We were so close, and now the internet has become a minefield for fans still waiting. The best-case scenario is that Naughty Dog decides to ditch the physical release for now and just release the digital version early, but odds are against that. For now, stay on your toes, I guess. The Last of Us 2 may be many, many months away.
