From the artist and writer of Gray Dawn, George Remus, along with developer Darkania Works, and publisher by GrimTalin, comes a new twisted tale of loss and horror entitled Last Days of Lazarus. Set in a post-soviet Eastern Europe, this new game tells the story of a troubled man, long estranged, returning to his childhood home after his mother’s death to spend some time with his sister Lyudmila. But as the country around him starts to fall apart, so does reality itself, with a series of unexplainable events leading him on a quest to find out more about his family’s disturbing past.
Per the developer:
Last Days of Lazarus is a first-person adventure game with a strong narrative and rich visuals drawing its inspiration from the post soviet era with a Gothic vibe and supernatural elements. As the story unravels, you’ll meet questionable characters whose corrupted version of the truth you’ll need to navigate. With a troubled past yourself, you’ll struggle not only with solving the mysteries laid upon you but also with keeping alive any sliver of hope for salvation.
Features:
- Bone-chilling setup inspired by Eastern European communism
- An enthralling story about death, suffering, spirituality and politics
- Two narrative paths, each with different characters, story and places to explore
- Dread and gore combined with eerily beautiful environments
- Disturbing plot with unexpected twists
I enjoyed Gray Dawn very much when I reviewed it back in 2018. Last Days definitely has a similar twisted look and psychedelic feel to it. One again, the settings and environmental details are elaborately ornate, and overall the game has an upsettingly intimate atmosphere about it.
Currently, Last Days of Lazarus is set for an early 2021 release for Steam, followed shortly after by an Xbox One and Switch release.
