Killer Klowns From Outer Space, the asymmetrical shooter based on the classic 1988 B movie, just received a big update with news dropping that studio Teravision Games has brought on board developer Illfonic to help co-develop and publish the upcoming title.
Aside from posting a trailer roughly six months ago, it has been relatively quiet around Killer Klowns From Outer Space for a suspiciously long time. Now, this is obviously speculation, but not really having shown anything since the game trailer, might have been an indication that Teravision Games might have been looking for help in development.
With the new announcement, it’s clear that Illfonic will be helping out not only with publishing but also with co-development of the game. Given that Illfonic has previous experience in developing another horror adaptation with Friday the 13th: The Game, which they developed together with Gun Interactive, as well as having taken over publishing duties for Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed, the studio seems like a good fit for the IP.
According to Bloody Disgusting, both Illfonic and Teravision games will be at Gamescom this week, where a playable demo will be available.
In light of the delays and silence around the project, having an actual presence at Gamescom would be huge for Killer Klowns From Outer Space, sparking hope that the planned release window of 2023 might still be feasible. However, we would not be shocked to learn about it being pushed to a 2024 release date.
Killer Klowns From Outer Space will be released for Xbox Series S|X, Playstation5, PC via Steam, as well as last-gen consoles Playstation 4, and Xbox One.
